KANSAS FALL FORESTRY FIELD DAY SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 16

Tree conservation and control covered; pre-registration due Oct. 9

The 2008 Kansas Fall Forestry Field Day will be held Oct. 16 at the Greg Ellis Tree Farm, near Baldwin. The event includes a variety of outdoor educational sessions with natural resource experts. Topics covered include establishing forests with seed, top 10 tree diseases in Kansas, tree identification, beneficial tree harvesting, forest ecology, and managing forests after harvest.

The 80-acre Ellis Tree Farm is maintained with a number of conservation practices, including thinning, nut planting, and timber harvest. A 20-acre grass planting also enhances the area.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and wear appropriate clothing. A $10 registration fee is due by Oct. 9. For more information or to pre-register, phone 785-532-3300.
