KANSAS ARMY AMMUNITION PLANT OFFERS 2008 SPRING TURKEY HUNTING OPPORTUNITY
Applications for three-day hunt due Feb. 29
PARSONS -- The Kansas Army Ammunition Plant will conduct a public drawing for a limited number of spring turkey hunters this year. The three-day hunt will be held April 11-13. All hunters must be at least 16 years old and have successfully completed a hunter education course. Applications must be received by Feb. 29.
Applicants must send their full name, driver's license number, Social Security number, date of birth, address, phone number, and hunt type (turkey) on a 3- by 5-inch index card to Commander’s Representative, KSAAP, ATTN: SJMKS-NR, 23018 Rooks Road, Parsons, KS 67357. Hunters must apply in pairs. The information provided will be used to conduct a mandatory background check for successfully drawn applicants. Incomplete or incorrect entries will not be accepted.
Only successful applicants will be notified by mail. To allow for increased hunter opportunity, successfully drawn applicants will not be allowed to apply for the same hunt the following year. All participants will be required to attend a safety/security briefing at 6 p.m. the evening before the hunt. Hunters must purchase a $20 federal user permit at the briefing. Hunt rules and questions will be fully addressed during the briefing. Hunts may be cancelled at any time due to heightened security. A recorded version of the hunt application requirements can be reached by calling 620-421-7429.
The largest turkey harvested during this hunt in 2007 weighed 29 pounds and had spurs more than 1 inch and three beards.
