KDWP OFFERS INTERACTIVE HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE OPTIONS
Students now offered two online coursework options before attending field day training
PRATT -- For several years now, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has offered hunter education courses that provide a large percentage of the work online, followed by a day of mostly field training, including live fire. Several days before the class, students log on the International Hunter Education Association's (IHEA) home study website, http://homestudy.ihea.com. Here, they are taken through several pages of information regarding hunter education, including introduction to hunter education, hunting safety, hunter responsibility, outdoor safety, wildlife conservation, and hunting opportunities.
Now, KDWP accepts an option to the IHEA portion of the course offered by HunterExam.com, an interactive hunter education course also designed to prepare students for hunter education certification. The new HunterExam online course offers a more interactive online experience, including interactive shotgun, rifle, and archery ranges that provide an entertaining way to learn online.
Like the IHEA course, HunterExam.com coursework allows participants to complete a number of the required course sections and hours at home, working at their own pace. Students can register, and a customized exam center will keep track of their progress as they move through the Kansas course. Students can login and out at any time and pick up right where they left off.
With an emphasis on safety and responsibility, the HunterExam.com program focuses on reducing hunting incidents through coursework presented in a narrative fashion with more than 350 original illustrations, 30 interactive exercises (powered by HE Tools™), followed by review questions and discussion points. Students also have access to HunterExam.com’s industry exclusive toll-free customer service help line from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Eastern), seven days a week, as well as its live online chat customer service feature.
“As in the past, instructor-led field days remain a crucial part of the hunter education certification process," says Wayne Doyle, hunter education coordinator for KDWP, "but the HunterExam course is a convenient way for students to complete the online study guide and chapter quizzes at home, so more hands-on training can be conducted at the field day.”
HunterExam.com also offers the only treestand safety course based on the latest guidelines developed by the Treestand Manufacturers Association. This new, fully-interactive narrative course engages students and is only 15 minutes long. The treestand safety course is free to anyone with an internet connection at www.hunterexam.com/treestandsafety.
KDWP still accepts the IHEA online course in preparation for the field day. The IHEA course is free. Students may visit HunterExam.com to view their site free of charge, but the online course costs $24.95 to complete and to receive a Field Day voucher, necessary to participate in KDWP's field day. The student must then successfully complete the field day in order to obtain their Kansas hunter education certificate. For more information visit www.hunterexam.com/usa/Kansas.
