KAR 115-15-1 Economic Impact Summary (PDF - 27.34 kB)

The economic impact of the proposed amendments is expected to be minimal due to a number of factors, including the current existence of other species in the same habitat that are already listed as threatened or endangered (concerning the Shoal chub and Plains minnow) and the limited geographic area (concerning the Delta hydrobe). To the extent the proposed amendments would lead to additional review of projects that would impact one of this species or its habitat, the economic impact would be anticipated to be small. State law requires a permit of such a project only if publicly funded or if a state or federal permit is already required. Of approximately 1000 to 1500 projects reviewed annually, only 20-30 require a permit, and less than 5 percent are required to perform additional mitigation. The proposed amendments would impose some cost on the department for the development and implementation of a recovery plan for the species being listed. However, the plan would be developed based on a priority list of all listed species. No other economic impact on the public or other state agencies is anticipated.

Cheney State Park has nine modern cabins that we are offering as an alternative to “roughing it.” These provide a great opportunity to experience the joys of the outdoors for those wanting to enjoy the lake but not wanting to tent-camp.

    Cabin Line-up

Cabins are located in an area together but staggered to provide privacy from each other. They are in close proximity to the lake and are within walking distance of the beach and swimming area.

Six of our cabins sleep four with a full-sized bed and a set of bunk beds, heating and air-conditioning,

table and chairs, shower and toilet, a dorm-room sized refrigerator, a microwave, toaster and coffee pot. These cabins have a screened-in porch, a patio with a charcoal grill provided, picnic table, fire ring, outside water hydrant and exterior electrical outlet. Those reserving the cabins must provide their own bed linens, pillows, kitchen utensils, towels, soap, and personal items. Smoking is not allowed in the cabins and pets are not allowed in the cabins. We do allow pets on the screened-in porch and this cabin does have a screened in porch. There is a leash law in effect for the park.

Reservations are accepted online or by phone at the Cheney State Park Office, 316-542-3664. Reservations are handled on a first come, first served basis, and for a period of 364 days in advance. Reservations require full payment up front and includes the total stay plus a nonrefundable reservation fee. The damage and refund policy is explained on the reservation page and in an email that we send before your stay. We do require a damage deposit of $75 by either cash, check or credit card and will be returned to you when you check out if the cabin is left in good condition. We ask that you leave the cabin in the condition it was in when you checked in.

Cabins reserve for the following prices and prices are subject to change:

    • Sunday/Thursday: $75
    • Friday/Saturday: $110

In addition, a daily vehicle permit is required in all state parks unless the renter has a current annual permit. The daily fee is $5.00 a day for a vehicle permit and can be purchased when you arrive. Prices for annual permits and senior permits and how to obtain them are located elsewhere on this site.
