Placing anchored cream cans in the ponds are part of the spawning process for catfish at the different hatcheries.
In a natural environment, the male catfish seeks out a dark secluded cavity like a hollow log. The cream cans simulate that environment. A male will prepare the can as a nest site and herd a female that is ready to spawn into the chosen can.
