CHEYENNE BOTTOMS - Last Updated: 8/17/2018

Waterfowl numbers 500-1,000 ducks, mostly bluewing teal with some mallards and wood ducks.  A few local Canada geese.
Water level Pool 1A is near 25", 1B and 1C are around 14".  Pool 2 has about 2".  Pool 4A is dry minus small areas of very shallow sheet water. Pools 3A, 3B, 4B, and 5 are completely dry.
Hunting conditions

Pool 2:  Good moist soil production in areas that were sprayed the last couple years and in areas that were free of cattails.  About 200 acres of cattails was aerially sprayed on 8/1/18.

Pool 3A:  All of the pool was aerially sprayed for cattails on 8/1/18.

Pool 3B:  209 acres were disked twice and drilled to millet.  Another 40 acres was no-till drilled to millet.  Another 300 acres of cattails have been disked.  Good moist soil production.

Pool 4A:  Some moist soil production.

Pool 4B:  80 acres were disked twice and planted to millet.  Another 38 acres were no-till drilled to millet.  Good moist soil production.

Pool 5: All 1,400 acres were burned and disked at least 5 times.  There are a few areas of cattails along the dike and in some deeper spots that are still too wet to disk.

Burned an additional 1,500 acres of uplands and small wetlands in Pool 5 and 3B.

Use the foot crossings along the 3B/4A road, 3A, and along 4B as channels have been dug out for de-watering and are very deep.

Expected hunting success Very poor unless it rains a lot between now and duck season.  Very little water available at this time to flood any pools.  Might be enough to put a couple inches in one of the smaller hunting pools.  That can change with one good rain.

TEXAS LAKE - Last Updated: 8/1/2018

Waterfowl number A few resident ducks are using the area
Water level The area received almost 5 inches of rain July 28-29.  All the mapped pools on the west side of the area (Pools 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9) are completely full.  There is also water north of Pool 6.  Pools 3F, 3D, and 3B are full.  Pool 2 is approximately 75% full.  Pool 1 is approximately 40% full.
Hunting conditons Most pools have heavy vegetation (mostly annual moist-soil).  With the timing of the rain, not many openings had been created prior to flooding.  Openings may be created through the fall as conditions allow.
