CHEYENNE BOTTOMS - Last Updated: 11/14/2019

Waterfowl numbers

Less than 2,000 ducks, mostly mallards.    Around 200,000 geese, good numbers of whitefronts, snows, and Canadas.  Most of the birds are staying in the refuge.

If the report has not been updated in a few days, please assume that conditions and bird numbers are the same as the last update.

Water level Warmer temps are melting the ice.  1A-44", 1B-29", 1C-29", 2-22", 3A-dry, 3B-16", 4A-6", 4B-17", 5-19".
Hunting conditions Disked about 200 acres of cattails in 4B.  Planted 35 acres of millet in 4B.  3A is dry and being disked for cattail control.  70 acres of 3A was planted to winter wheat.  All cattails in 4A and 60 acres in 3B were sprayed on 9/4/19.
Expected hunting success Poor.  For the period of 11/2-11/7, hunters have averaged 2.59 ducks per hunter.  High pressure and poor habitat is going to make for a tough duck season.  Teal season average was 2.62 teal per hunter.  Deep water throughout spring and the first half of summer prevented germination of moist soil plants, cattail and phragmites control, and planting of millet.
