GROUNDBREAKING IS FRIDAY FOR KANSAS WETLANDS CENTER
Gov. Sebelius keynote speaker for Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area event
The public is invited to join Gov. Kathleen Sebelius at a ground-breaking ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27th to celebrate the development of the Kansas Wetlands Education Center near Great Bend. The event will take place across from the KDOT rest area on Highway K-156 northeast of Great Bend, and will also commemorate the designation of the Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway.
The education center is being established to showcase the acclaimed Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area, as well as other wetlands in Kansas. The center, which will be operated by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and Fort Hays State University, is the result of a partnership that includes a variety of local organizations and volunteers.
A shuttle bus will be available at Barton County Community College, beginning at 10 a.m., to transport visitors to the ceremony. For more information, contact the Great Bend Conventioin and Visitors Bureau at 620/792-2750.
