YOUTH WATERFOWL HUNTING DAY AT SCOTT STATE PARK AUGUST 4

Basic wingshooting, duck identification, calling techniques
among skills youth 10 through 16 will be taught
SCOTT CITY -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will host a Youth Waterfowl Day on August 4 at Scott State Park. Events will introduce young hunters to the skills and equipment necessary to hunt ducks and geese. Activities will begin at 8 a.m. and should be over by 1 p.m. Youngsters age 10 to 16 must pre-register by calling 620-227-8609.

In addition to learning basic shotgun wingshooting skills, duck identification, boating safety, retriever handling, and calling techniques, young hunters will also apply for special guided waterfowl hunts during the upcoming fall duck and goose seasons. Twenty-five hunts will be drawn for, and several hunts may be videoed for a television production. Lunch will be provided.

A large number of sponsors are helping make this event possible and providing door prizes to participating youngsters. Sponsors include Patternmaster Choke Tubes, Reelwings Decoy Co., Mack’s Prairie Wings, Final Approach, Hevi-shot, Echo Duck and Goose Calls, Real Geese Decoys, and RNT Calls.

Scott State Park is 14 miles north of Scott City just off of Highway 83.
