Shotgun, layout blind, hunting knife, other raffle prizes offered
EMPORIA -- Last December, 18-year-old Beau Arndt, Americus, was shot and killed in a layout blind among a large spread of goose decoys. The lethal rifle shot was fired from a road 150 yards away, and a jury decided a Topeka man was responsible. Since then, Arndt has been honored with a scholarship in his name at Emporia State University (ESU). The Beau Arndt “Love for the Outdoors” Scholarship Fund was established by Hunt for Hunger (a local organization dedicated to providing food to those in need) and Arndt’s parents, Bob and Christine Arndt of Americus.

The scholarship is granted to students majoring in biology or earth science with grade point averages between 2.5 and 3.5 and who are graduates of any high school in Lyon County.

The most recent "Love of the Outdoors" Scholarship fundraiser is selling raffle tickets for a Franci semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun, an Avery layout blind, a handmade hunting knife, and other assorted outdoor gear. These prizes will be awarded during the Americus Day Celebration on Oct. 4. Tickets can be purchased for $10 from Bruce Burenheide at Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply, Emporia, or from the Kansas Land Bank in Americus.
