Flathead Catfish Tagging

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and Kansas State University are conducting a project on the biology of flathead catfish in the Kansas River.  Researchers at KSU are tagging flathead catfish with numbered tags inserted near the dorsal fin (see above picture).  Each one of these tags has an email address (flathead@ksu.edu ) and a phone number (785-532-2413).  If you catch one of these fish, please email or call and provide:

  1. the tag number
  2. date the fish was captured
  3. weight of fish (in pounds)
  4. length of fish (in inches)
  5. where on the river it was captured

Each angler returning a tag will be placed in a drawing to win a digital camera ($300 value) or a catfish fishing pole ($150 value).  If you have any further questions about the project, please feel free to contact:
