There is a one-time specialty plate application fee of $40 + an annual specialty plate fee of $50 which makes the total for the first year $90. Out of the annual $50 specialty plate fee, $35 goes to help fund conservation efforts and $15 goes towards your annual state park vehicle permit.

How do I get a KDWP plate?
Go to your local County Treasurer’s office as you normally do to renew your tags. While you are there, let them know you are switching to a new Kansas Wildlife & Parks distinctive license plate. You will be required to surrender your current tag and you will be issued a temporary tag. Your new Kansas Wildlife & Parks plate will be mailed to you by the State of Kansas within a few weeks.
How much do these plates cost?
The State of Kansas requires a one-time production fee of $40 for distinctive license plates which is due upon initial application and issuance. The conservation donation associated with each tag is $50/year ($35 goes to conservation and $15 goes to your state park vehicle pass). Those costs are in addition to your standard registration fees and property taxes.
When you request a Kansas Wildlife & Parks plate for the first time, you will pay:
Your normal vehicle registration fees + a $40 production fee + a $50 donation to KDWP.
When you renew your existing Kansas Wildlife & Parks plate, you will pay:
Your normal vehicle registration fee + a $50 donation to KDWP.
Do I have to wait until my normal tag renewal to request a Kansas Wildlife & Parks?
Absolutely not! You can visit your County Treasurer’s office today, request a Kansas Wildlife & Parks plate, pay the required fees, and your new plates will arrive in the mail shortly thereafter. There's no need to wait for your regular renewal—start displaying your support for Kansas Wildlife & Parks on the road right away!
What will my $50 donation support?
Donations associated with these distinctive license plates in Kansas help fund a variety of efforts. Depending on which plate you choose, your donation will support wildlife conservation, fisheries improvements, non-game species conservation or state park improvements. Of your $50 donation, $35 will support conservation efforts for wildlife, fisheries, non-game species conservation or state park improvements. The remaining $15 dollars of your donation will grant you vehicle access to all Kansas state parks.
Is the cost tax deductible?
Yes, but only the $50 donation is tax deductible.
Are these plates available for motorcycles?
Yes! If you’re someone who takes to the road on two wheels, request a Kansas Wildlife & Parks plate for your motorcycle! The process is the same as if you were to request a plate for a pickup, SUV, car, or other passenger vehicle.
Are these plates available for trailers or commercial vehicles?
Unfortunately, these tags are not available for trailers or commercial vehicles at this time.
Is there a disabled/handicap option for these license plates?
Yes. All of the KDWP distinctive license plates have a disabled citizen option. You must have the completed form from your doctor and take it to your local county office when purchasing a KDWP license plate. You will be issued a decal to place on the plate making it legal to use for handicap parking.

What if I want to get plates for multiple vehicles?
The process to get the Kansas Wildlife & Parks plate is the same for each vehicle. For the initial purchase, you’ll pay the production fee of $40 for each vehicle, plus the $50 donation. Unfortunately, there is no price break for multiple purchases. For future renewals, you’ll only pay your vehicle registration fees and the $50 annual donation for each vehicle.
Can I personalize my Kansas Wildlife & Parks plate or get a special number?
Unfortunately, these plates cannot be personalized at this time.
How do I renew my Kansas Wildlife & Parks plate?
Initial purchase of a distinctive plate must be done in-person at your County Treasurer’s office. However, as long as you are not making significant changes (new vehicle, etc.), renewals in future years can be done by mail or online like a standard tag. You will receive specific instructions with your renewal notice.
