Fishing's Future and the KDWPT is hosting an Angler Education Instructors certification course at the Lakewood Discovery Center in Salina, Kansas. Anglers aspiring to teach fishing techniques to youth, families, and students in Kansas are encouraged to attend.
This course is free to the public, although we do require anyone enrolling to go to this link https://programs.ksoutdoors.com/ans and complete the KDWPT ANS online course. certification. After completing the ANS course you will be able to print your ANS Certification card. Please bring this card to class with you. At class you will also be ask to sign a release and the KDWPT will run a background check to help ensure the safety of the children we all teach.
Teens between the ages of 12 to 17 may also attend to get a Junior Ambassador card. This form requires a permission form to be signed by a parent or legal guardian. If you are a teen and plan on attending, let me know and I will send the form to you once you register. Bring the completed form to the class with you.
Apart from becoming a certified angler education instructor, attendees will also be given valuable information regarding working with children, sample curriculum, and tips for preparing a class or clinic. Other subjects covered in the three hour class include current fishing regulations, species identification, fishing ethics, equipment, knot-tying, casting, fish habitat, aquatic nuisance species, and conservation practices.
