The event interprets 1800-1840 with a traditional rendezvous when Mountain Men and American Indians camped together to trade for needed supplies from the fur companies. Activities may include Indian and Mountain Men Encampments, Historical Traders, Reenactors Blackpowder Shoot, Tomahawk Throw, Skillet Throw for the Ladies, and a Kids Gold Rush. **Please note that we do have chances of rain in the forecast each day this week! IF it rains and is a significant amount of rain, this could impact the chance of having the tour! If tours are canceled, the calendar info will be updated and emails will be sent out to those registered for the tours!**
**Restrooms are currently open. Please be advised that due to unavoidable circumstances, there might be temporary closures of restrooms due to water issues. Plan ahead and make stops in Oakley or Scott City just in case!**
**My days off are Thursday/Friday this week. I only check emails at work. Please plan ahead when making your reservations to know for sure there is space available in a tour!!! Emails sent on my days off will not be replied to until Saturday Afternoon.
Space is limited on sunset photo strolls. Spaces must be reserved. I try for the tours to not be too much larger than 15 people. Please make your plans and email sarakay.carrell@ks.gov to reserve a spot! Email is the BEST way to reach Sara Kay!!!
We will meet at the Ramada Overlook at the west end of the parking lot and venture off in a direction that will take us off into the bottoms of the rock formations.
Sunset is at 7:39pm for Saturday September 28th! It will be complete dark by 8:30pm.
We will depart the Ramada Overlook at 6:30pm. We will stroll for a bit around the formations. As we meander thru the formations, we stop to admire and photograph the landscape at various locations. Please remember this is a leisure stroll. This is NOT the full tour of the Badlands.
We will enjoy the sunset in the formations and plan to start hiking out before it gets too dark. Darkness will begin to set upon us at 8:05pm. When walking back, it will likely be dark as we walk back on the trail.
Any camera type you have is fine! DSLR and phone cameras welcome! Even if you are not a photographer, you are welcome to come along and enjoy the relaxing meander!!
Things to Know:
*There is no fee for the tour. You DO need a daily vehicle pass ($5 exact cash or check) OR a KS State Park Annual Pass. Self pay kiosk is at the park entrance. Exact change or check only!
*Meeting location is the Ramada Overlook, the main overlook at the West end of the parking lot.
*Reservations are required. An email is all I need. You will get a confirmation email from me when I check my email! Please email 24+ hours in advance for best chances!
*If there are cancellations due to weather, etc, the notice will be posted on this calendar date info page. Emails will also be sent out to those reserved.
**Hikes will be cancelled by inclement weather!** If it is snowing, blizzarding, freezing rain, raining, lightning, or any other unsafe weather brought on by Mother Nature, all activities will be canceled at Little Jerusalem. Scott City and Oakley are the closest towns to search for weather on National Weather Service. Cancellation notices will be posted on this hike day's info.
