Other Information:

On Friday, July 16th KDWP will co-host a special event at the Webster State Park with the Rooks County Extension Office. The event will be geared towards insect collecting and entymology (study of insects) education. The event will be open to all ages and participants do not need to be 4-H members. Anyone who has an interest in insects is encouraged to attend.

We will meet at the Coyote shelter area at 7PM on both evenings. Participants will get the chance to collect insects along the Coyote trail area and there will be insect collection educational programs put on by KDWP and Extension volunteers at the Coyote shelter following the trail walk. From 9PM until 11PM we will do a night collection by the use of insect traps or an attractor. In between checking the insect attractors participants will get to enjoy a campfire and roast marshmallows. Participants may stay and camp at that location if they wish.

The planned collection activities will be aimed at collecting a wide variety of insect types that would be suitable to compliment an insect collection to be used for a school project or a 4-H project, or just for the sake of learning more about the nature of insects at the park.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own insect collection nets, jars, containers, etc.. KDWP will provide some insect collection nets equipment for those that do not have any, but due to the limited number of nets, participants may have to work in teams or share equipment. Participants should plan to bring their own beverages and snacks and dress for the weather. Participants 10 years of age or younger shall be accompanied by an adult. Vehicle park permits and/or camping permits will be required.

Please RSVP all participants prior to the event by calling the park office at 785-425-6775.
