Milford State Park is a favorite getaway for outdoors loving visitors. It is a popular destination for anglers eager for walleye, crappie, large mouth bass, white bass, catfish, and small mouth bass.
Milford State Park is a diverse 1,084-acre area located on the southeast end of Milford Lake. The park is a multipurpose recreation area that provides services to campers, boaters, fishermen, hunters, water enthusiasts, wildlife viewers, picnickers, and trail goers. The park features eight campgrounds with 60 sites offering three utilities, 91 sites offering two utilities, and the remaining 103 sites are primitive. Park amenities include 10 cabins for rent, equestrian facilities, over 12 miles of trails, splash park, playground facilities, day use shelters, group camping areas, 3 boat ramps with courtesy docks, 2 fish cleaning stations, 2 dump stations, full service marina facility, and a ADA Fishing Dock with kayak launch.
Cabins, campsite, and shelter reservations can be made online at www.reserveamerica.com, kshuntfishcamp.com, the Camp It KS app, or by contacting the State Park Office.
There are many opportunities to observe or photograph wildlife on the 19,000-acre wildlife area located on the west side and upper end of the reservoir. The Steve Lloyd refuge contains an additional 1,100 acres. The diverse habitats support many species of non game birds, mammals, reptiles and aquatic life. Nearby Milford Nature Center and Milford Fish Hatchery (both are located below the dam) offer a variety of interpretive exhibits and displays. The lake hosts a large influx of bald eagles in the winter.
Hunters will find a variety of game including quail, pheasant, prairie chicken, duck, goose, rabbit, turkey, deer, and squirrel. Trappers are also active throughout the season in pursuit of raccoon, muskrat, beaver, and other furbearers.
